(Trijodthyronin, Cytomel) injection is a thyroid hormone. It can
improve symptoms of serious thyroid deficiency, known as myxedema. It
will improve symptoms such as slow speech, lack of alertness, lack of
energy, weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, and feeling cold. The
injection is normally used in the hospital.
This medicine is for injection into a a vein by a health care professional in a hospital setting.
Contact your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in
children. While this drug may be prescribed for children for selected
conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- ou are allergic to any ingredient in
T3 (Liothyronine)
- you have had or are having a heart attack or you have untreated
thyrotoxicosis (a condition characterized by chest pain, increased
heartbeat, pounding in the chest, excessive sweating, heat intolerance,
and nervousness)
- you have certain uncorrected adrenal gland problems
SIDE EFFECTS:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or
minor,
side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON
side effects persist or become bothersome:
- Partial, temporary hair loss
- Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing,
tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue),
changes in appetite, changes in menstrual periods, changes in weight,
chest pain, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating,
headache, inability to tolerate warm or hot room/weather conditions,
increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, leg cramps, nervousness,
pounding in the chest, shortness of breath, tremor, vomiting.
